Biography.

Anna Quiroga is a London-based harpist who has recently graduated with honours from an Artist Diploma degree at the Royal College of Music, where she studied with professor Ieuan Jones, and previously achieved a Masters degree with honours. While studying at the RCM, Anna has been generously supported by the Stanley Picker Award, the Agustí Pedro i Pons Foundation Scholarship and the Leverhulme Award. She is currently being kindly supported by the musical charity Talent Unlimited.

Anna has collaborated with various orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra (RCM’s BBCSO Pathway Scheme) and the HSCO Hulencourt Orchestra. She has toured around Spain as a winner of the Concurso Permanente de Juventudes Musicales de España (JJMM) and participated in music festivals such as the ‘Festival Internacional d’ Arpa de Sentmenat’ the ‘Pòdium Internacional de Matadepera’, and ‘New Soundings Project’. She has taken part in diverse RCMSO orchestral projects with Vladimir Ashkenazy, Sir Roger Norrington, Bernard Haitink, Jean-Philippe Calvin, Kenneth Hesketh, Brett Dean and James Ledger. She has performed in renowned venues such as the Palau de la Música Catalana, Auditori Municipal de Barcelona, Auditori de Lleida, BBCSO Studio in Maida Vale, Cadogan Hall, the Hampton Court Palace, the V&A, Austrian Cultural Forum, Italian Embassy, Flagey Studio 4 in Brussels, amongst others.

Anna’s ensemble chamber work is extremely varied, and apart from traditional ensembles such as flute and harp duo, and flute, viola and harp trio, Anna regularly works with double bass, saxophone, and occasionally with percussion.. Her passion for discovery is leading her to break down musical barriers, and she continues to champion contemporary and new music in different styles. As well as continuing to collaborate with composers and further experimenting with electronics, amongst her new projects there is the creation of new ensembles such as harp double bass saxophone and clarinet, pop singer and harp, and a harp duo.

Ensembles:

The Girls in a Magnesium Dress.

The Girls in a Magnesium Dress is a collaboration between two instrument of very different registers... And number of strings!: the double bass and the harp. The former players of this peculiar ensemble,Valentina Scheldhofen (double bass) and Anna Quiroga (harp), met during a rehearsal with the BBCSO between the BBCSO Pathway Scheme, and decided to play together just for fun. After rehearsing together for a while, they got increasingly captivated by the sound produced by such contrasting sonorities and decided to carry on on investigating repertoire possibilities and textures. Their first concert together was held at the Royal College of Music on November 2016, and after that they regularly performed for different London associations and particulars, such as GSM Greenford University. During the next few months they will be performing in renowned venues such as the V&A and St. James’s Picadilly. Hit the contact box if you are interested in hear The Girls play!

Anna is currently working in new projects such as a pop singer and harp duo, a harp duo, a violin and harp duo and more, to be announced soon!
